Tower Engineering Services
We provide tower designs and verifications to DIBt, GL and IEC standards, finite element analysis for special structures, tower structural assessments and modal analyses, as well as tower monitoring under real operating conditions.
Tower Design
The tower of a wind turbine carries a load-bearing significance in every sense of the word. It not only absorbs all structural loads but also has a decisive influence on the cost and economic viability of the project. All tower designs and required documentation at Reprojekt are based on national and international standards.
Finite Element Method in Wind Energy
Modal Analysis / Natural Frequency
Using the FEM method, the natural frequencies of the turbines can be estimated, allowing resonances to be avoided already during tower design.
Structural Tower Verification
The FEM method is used when analytical methods reach their limits. Openings in a tower wall can be examined with regard to occurring stress peaks.
Special Structures
Special structures can be examined for their load-bearing capacity using FEM and optimised using stochastic methods.
Tower Monitoring
Monitoring of Structural Parameters
Using bonded strain gauges (DMS), the elongation of a steel tower in specific directions is recorded. From the position, direction and elongation of the DMS, a statement about the occurring forces can be made.
Vibration Behaviour Monitoring
Vibration behaviour can be measured using fast-measuring DMS as well as acceleration sensors mounted at the tower head. The results serve to determine the natural frequency and as a basis for fatigue calculations.
Fatigue Monitoring
Building on the load collective from vibration behaviour monitoring, linear damage accumulation according to Palmgren/Miner can be performed. This is particularly useful for assessing the continued operation of older turbines.
